A skin tax
By Blake FontenayDecember 26th, 2007
Well, I hope that everyone had a good Christmas. As usual when I take a break from blogging for a few days, the fodder for satire seems to pile up in a hurry.
Like the story in Saturday’s newspaper about how the state of Texas is planning to require strip clubs to charge a $5-per-customer "pole tax," with most of the revenue collected being earmarked to help rape victims.
If Memphis City Council members are really worried about the tax revenue they would lose by banning alcohol sales at local strip clubs, this is an alternative they might want to consider.
After all, $5 would just be a drop in the bucket of what the typical customer spends in a strip club. Or so I’m told.
