Free trade with those folks who put on the Mule Day celebration

By Blake Fontenay

“I’d like to buy a vowel, please.”I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:

Good editors have caught many mistakes I’ve made in my writing through the years. Other mistakes have slipped through and found their way into print. And I’m sure it’ll happen again.

All that said, maybe I shouldn’t be nit-picking small mistakes that I find in news releases.

But I’m going to do it anyway.

U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn put out a news release yesterday that makes repeated references to the "Columbia Free Trade Agreement."

I assume she probably meant the free trade agreement involving the South American country of Colombia. However, there is a town of Columbia in Middle Tennessee, just south of the eastern part of her congressional district.

So perhaps it wasn’t a misspelling. Maybe Blackburn has been working on a separate free trade agreement with Columbia that just hasn’t been getting quite as much media attention as the other one.
