About 30 years ago I was living in Pittsburgh Pa. My brother lived here in Memphis and he told me of the great success tanning salons were enjoying here. So, I opened a tanning salon in Pittsburgh.

I was not successful and folded my tent after a few months. But that was long enough for me to enjoy "free" tanning -- or so I thought!

Here's what it has cost me so far: 3 surgeries -- to excise skin cancers on my nose, forehead and back, and visits every few months to my dermatologist to have pre-cancerous lesions removed.

Mothers: don't let your children grow up to love tanning. Lawmakers: shut down the tanning salons. They're killers.
