Winner: Hutchison

Hutchison, a 105-year-old, private all-girls school in East Memphis, swept our Memphis Most school categories. A stone’s throw away from another finalist, the all-boys Memphis University School, Hutchison has 850 students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, all of whom receive a classical education that stresses leadership, critical thinking and community service. In addition, Hutchison community relations coordinator Steve O’Dell estimates, 70 percent of Hutchison students participate in athletics and 60 percent in the arts.

“The best thing we offer is a well-rounded education,” he says. “We stress academics, but we want students to realize there is a lot more to the world than what is in books.”
