Winner: El Porton

Heriberto Perez, who grew up on a small family-owned ranch in San Jose, opened the first El Porton at Merchant’s Row in Germantown in 1992. He now has five in the area.

“All El Portons are famous for our fabulous margaritas at the best price. … We also pride ourselves in the freshness and quality of food at outstanding prices, and of course chips and salsa, need I say more?” he wrote in an e-mail. Readers agree with Perez, naming his restaurants the Most Mexican in Memphis.
