Winner: Leviticus Pointer
In the Bible, Leviticus is a book of rituals and laws. At Vance Middle School, Leviticus Pointer has been laying down the law since becoming principal there last year. Already he has had a real impact, leading an anti-violence awareness program among his 8th-grade boys that reduced the number of fights to just one during the 180-day school year. "It’s refreshing to see such a dedicated principal," says Memphis City School Board member Tomeka Hart.
Finalists: Lee Burns (Presbyterian Day School), Steve Jackson (Christ Methodist Day School)
