Heading south on Belvedere Boulevard from Union Avenue and into Central Gardens, the world of traffic, gas stations and fast food joints quickly fades away into quiet the lull of the Old South.

Dogwood trees bloom on the median in the springtime, crape myrtles in the summertime. The golden afternoon light in the autumn through the towering oak trees is a dazzling sight. Majestic houses rise over landscaped lawns as the street curves down to Central Avenue, and the Romanesque Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is like a beautiful cake-topper on a street as delectable as icing.
