Winner: Mud Island Amphitheatre

An intimate 5,000-seat venue wedged onto a sliver of land between the Wolf River Harbor and the Mississippi River, the Mud Island Amphitheater has seen only sporadic use in recent years since ruling as one of the city’s top venues in the ’80s. This summer it has seen something of a return to form with concerts by Norah Jones and Willie Nelson on the books.

And while any outdoor event in Memphis can be a crapshoot with heat, humidity, rain, and mosquitoes, Mud Island Amphitheater more than makes up the difference with the best view of the downtown skyline around.
