Most Memphis Jukebox

Winner: Earnestine & Hazel’s

In his 38 years in the bar business, Earnestine & Hazel’s owner Russell George has always depended on jukeboxes to keep customers drinking. “To me it’s the sole part of our entertainment,” he says.

Located in an old building in the South Main District downtown that was reputedly once a brothel, Earnestine’s has a funky old juke joint vibe, and George stocks his 15-year-old jukebox accordingly. Like the establishment itself, nothing under 21 is allowed, and there is a definite leaning toward the classics like Frank Sinatra, Patsy Cline, Stax soul, classic country and jazz.

531 S. Main, 523-9754. 5 p.m.-3 a.m. seven days a week.

Finalists: Alex’s Tavern, Young Avenue Deli
