Elvis is offered a crew cut at the Summer Center Barber Shop, home to Memphis’ Most Old School Barbers.The gentlemen behind the chairs represent over 300 years of grooming experience. Owner Murrel Holder, who quit cutting after 52 years, says all of his employees are over 75 years old.
After watching the King perform for the barbers, Wiley Reaves tells the group that he used to sing in the choir with Elvis at the First Assembly of God Church on McLemore.
“Some people didn’t like to sit next to him because they thought he was a little off key,” he recalls.
Elvis replies, “I wasn’t off key that time, was I?”
