pets on vacation

Do you take your pet on vacation with you? Tell me about your experiences. I never take mine. I just think they would be happier in their own home. Also, everything becomes about them. I have to plan my vacation around getting back to them. I would much rather pay a pet sitter to come stay at my house and keep them fat and happy and in the air conditioning and sleeping on my bed so that I can be gone for 14 hours or more without worrying about them. I can be a guilt-free traveler.
On my recent European vacation, I love saying that, we went to 9 cities in six countries. I could have never done that with a pet in tow. I think they are better suited for vacations where you are staying at a condo or just staying put. What do you think and what has been your experience?

Yes! the pets go! There are a lot of pet friendly places out there.
In Tennessee, at least one state park cabin in each park is reserved for people ant their pets. We went a couple of years ago to Roane Mountain state park (near the North Carolina border, 400 miles east of Memphis) and had a wonderful time with our pet dog.
Other states with pet friendly state park cabins are Virginia, Ohio, and Georgia. Our next big travel vacation will be to the pet friendly Amicalola Falls State Park in Georgia. Be sure to check with the park, even in pet friendly states the policies vary from park to park.
There are condos in florida for rent that are pet friendly, as well.
We took the dog (crate and all) and stayed in a real good Holiday Inn in Sileston and have stayed in Drury and red roof inns in Kentucky, Illinois and Missouri with pets. West Virginia is proposing pet friendly cabin state parks in their future policies.
One workd of advice, be sure to take the shot records, haver tags, and know the pet regulations of the state you are traveling in. Floriada has laws about pets in cars. North Carolina has laws preventing pets in motels...There are many unique state laws.
