Stolen Maddox

By Cindy Wolff
May 8th, 2007

maddox1.jpgTwo young women walked into the Memphis Shelby County Humane Society Thursday and stole my favorite dog Maddox. He's a white pit bull mix with some Dalmatian spots. He's the sweetest boy. I am so upset that they just walked out with him. I'm worried about what they are doing with him and what they will do with him if they find out people are after them. What's sad is he is only valued at $100. They will be punished for stealing something that is valued at $100, which isn't much punishment. Anyway, what's important is getting him back. Here's his picture.

If you have seen him, contact the Shelby County Sheriff's office at 545-5600.

Bailey

I am so excited that Pam Bell found Bailey, the dog that was lost for 20 days at the Memphis International Airport.Read the story. While the rest of us were shopping and getting ready for the holidays, she drove out to the airport two or three times a day searching for that dog. Bailey would not be alive it it weren't for Pam's dedication and deterimination to find her.

Pam is also helping to take care of her father-in-law, who is in a nursing home, and is dying. She also works full-time and takes care of her own dogs. She is an amazing person.

She sent me this picture of Bailey curled up and sleeping in a warm bed for the first time in 20 days.

Help Bailey Get Home

This is Bailey, a 75-pound shepherd, Great Dane mix that escaped from her crate while she was in the cargo area of Northwest Airlines.

The dog was being shipped from Seattle to Memphis to stay with her owner's mom until the summer. The owner said a NW worker wanted to see the dog and opened her crate door and she bolted across the runway and is lost somewhere on the airport property. There's a chance she found her way out and is in a neighborhood nearby.

Please help her get home. If you spot her, call Pam Bell at 230-5002

Lost/Found

By Cindy Wolff
November 28th, 2006

The Memphis Shelby County Humane Society has created a lost/found service on its Web site. You can scroll through and see pictures and info about lost and found pets and post your information. When your pet is lost, you need to become as focused as a battlefield general in trying to get it back. Here are the things I would do. If you have other suggestions, please send them to me.

1. Place a lost/found ad in The Commercial Appeal. It's the largest circulation paper in the region and thousands of eyes will see your notice. Pet lovers pay attention to that and will look for your pet while they are driving around. I look all the time.
2. Go to http://www.memphishumane.org and post your information and upload a picture. Not computer savvy? Find a friend. We are out there.
3. Create fliers with your pet's picture and brief information. I see some fliers that look like someone wrote an essay on them. You need something that people can see in the time it takes to pass by in their car. Lost, red, female dog, black lab, golden retriever mix. And put your phone number, your cell number in big letters. But, leave off an identifier that you can ask them about. Some unscrupulous people may try to con you. If your dog or cat has a interesting coloring or one paw is white, ask them about that. Ask them if all the paws are white? If they say yes, it's not your pet.
